Guth dedicates a significant portion of his book to outlining common supplier tactics for manipulating or at least steering procurement people. Each tactic has a clever name, a definition and tips on how to react. Key to Guth's philosophy on managing suppliers is that less information is more, and that meetings should happen on the buyer's terms and turf. The tactics seem a little light at first passing, but it is hard to deny that from a human behavior perspective Guth has us all pegged in one category or another. It is easy to feel smug reading about the tactics that other people fall prey to, but once you recognize your own habits described in reaction to a tactic, you know it. Then you can focus on the reasons you've been doing what you're doing, what the consequences may be, and how to combat the tactic in the future. The book could use more in the way of third party references or substantiation - I happen to like quotes and additional reading lists, but that's me. Guth does say right up front that the book is a representation of his experiences, and he is true to that. The last section of the book is a very practical guide to common contract sections and how to negotiate them - confidentiality, terms v. conditions, limitation of liability. He is a lawyer after all. If you spend a portion of your time putting contracts in place, this is a worthwhile reference to have on hand.Kelly Barner[…]

I recently received this book in Kindle & paperback version. My staff and I are using this book as a guide while we craft our first SaaS template as a Service Provider and also negotiate a couple of other SaaS agreement where we are the subscriber. I've not read the entire book yet but the sections I've read were very helpful. The method by which Mr. Guth dissects the various components of the template helps us to focus in on what we should doing (or not) and helps generate discussions of alternative methods or strategies. So far this book has been worth the investment.

[Disclaimer: I'm Stephen's friend and we talk frequently about these topics.]The simple truth is that there aren't that many good resources available for people who negotiate contracts, and virtually none of them are written for someone who is a contract professional and sees vendor ploys on a consistent basis. This would seem to not necessarily be a huge deal - you wouldn't think that a negotiation handbook would need to be written to that specific of an audience.Contract professionals, however, are in a really strange position. We tend to see these ploys so many times and in so many forms that it is sometimes hard to catch the nuances. In other words, we become SO immersed in the shades of gray that we can't tell which shade is lighter or darker.Stephen's book delineates each shade of gray. He takes each ploy, breaks it down to its component parts and explains the mechanisms by which it works (and how to counter it). Then he turns the tables to discuss buyer tactics and their operation.Additionally, the Contract Negotiation Handbook covers specific language negotiation on several key contractual terms - which very few other publications even attempt. Lastly, Stephen reviews methods by which you can measure negotiation performance, in essence giving the reader the ability to measure the results of putting the Contract Negotiation Handbook's advice into practice!Overall, this book more than makes good on its promise of being indispensable. I am using this book as a supplement for my PHMNP progam. Well written, concise, and provides all the information needed at a quick glance. I find this guide easier to use than Stahl's Prescriber Guide. Well worth the money!

Dr. Padder has provided mental health professionals with a significant resource that covers everything the book sets out to do: concise, yet thorough; professional, yet easy to read and relate with; informative and easy to translate for patients and caregivers. And very affordable given the market value of such a great resource. I strongly recommend the Practical Guide to Psychiatric Medications by Tanveer Padder, MD.

As I began to work my way through Ray Rothrock's book the first time, I was again reminded of the Toffler observation in his classic work, Future Shock (1984). Business leaders who are illiterate insofar as cyber crime is concerned are placing their organizations at great risk. The perimeter defenses now in place will be no more effective than the Maginot Line was almost 80 years ago.I agree with Frank Wolf: "There are two kinds of people in America today: those who have experienced a foreign cyber attack and know it, and those who have experienced a foreign cyber attack and don't know it." This book is a must-read. It's not "IF" you get attacked but "WHEN". Leaders in the cybersecurity industry must be proactive and protect their environments from an attack instead of focusing on responding to one.

I have to agree that this is an issue of concern for me, though I don't stand out as much to the crowd as larger corporations. I'm just working as a freelancer for now, though there are always threats to my own security as well as the accounts of customers I have. I know there there is not much that I can do as of right now, but it definitely made me think about what will be necessary if I am to develop my business from simple self-employment. It seems as though there are many people out there making a career off of destroying others' networks and databases, and I will have to make sure I start to invest some more energy into security.

Too often, cybersecurity is treated like an afterthought and then business leaders act surprised when their servers get hacked. Instead of dumping on IT professionals who are probably already overstressed by the lack of budgeting for cybersecurity, business leaders should read this book and share it with their IT staff. If I had to add one point, it's that business leaders and IT staff should also question the types of data they store and why they store sensitive data on a server that would be exposed if a malicious actor gets into their private network. If your customers would be pissed with you over a breach that exposes their data, then you're already doing something wrong and should limit the amount of customer data you collect and save to what you absolutely need to provide services to paying customers. But this is a good book for (hopefully) getting the ball rolling in the right direction as far as cybersecurity is concerned.

Overall it is a good review of material, but beware of errors. The sections (knowledge areas) are slightly different from the real FE - the book is missing a section on Material/Energy Balances (which is pretty significant considering this is the foundation of much of chemical engineering) and has Mass Transfer and Unit Processes separated (on the exam, Mass Transfer and Separations are in one section). The Diagnostic Exams don't always have an accurate distribution of problems. For example, for the 10 Chemical Reaction Engineering diagnostic problems, 3 have nothing to do with reactions (1 separations, 1 material balance, 1 thermo). And for the 10 Thermodynamics, probably 2 should be categorized as Heat Transfer. It looks like it was rushed to publication (uses many problems from old review manuals) and was not edited as thoroughly as it should have been. But it still provides some value for reviewing concepts. Hopefully future editions will fix some of the problems.

Book effectively reviews material on FE. I haven't solved ChemE problems in the last 3 years, and was able to pass the FE after studying this book and it's partner - FE Chemical Practice Problems. The book goes through all subjects and provides a good review.My complaints?-There are quite a few errors in problems & worked solutions. However, if you read the section, they're fairly easy to spot.-The example problems are quite long & a bit different from what is actually on the FE. However, it still allows you to review the material.-The majority of the exam is focused on ChemE related problems, however, the ChemE sections in this book are relatively short. Larger sections went to less important topics (general engineering, material science, chemistry, etc.)-The writing style could really be improved. In many sections, the order that topics were presented was non-logical, and repeating many topics. As a review manual, it doesn't severely detract from the reader's capacity to learn/review. It's just annoying that it's poorly written & poorly organized.

I based my study schedule for the FE Chemical Exam around this manual. I went through this manual in 2 weeks reading everything and working every example honestly. It gives a good review of all the relevant topics and the problems are harder/longer than the actual exam. After using this manual for 2 weeks I switched over to the FE Chemical Practice Problems book (also by Lindeburg) to work on topics I felt less confident in that had been exposed by the diagnostic exams in the review manual. If you want to be over prepared and comfortable for the exam this is the way to go. Passed the exam no problem.

This book covers every major topic that I studied in my undergraduate chemical engineering curriculum and does a very good job of organizing each topic neatly. The book is organized by topic, thrn further by subtopics, then even further by splitting up into sections in each subcategory based on what equations and concepts you'll need for that section. They have diagnostic exams at the beginning of each chapter to gauge your understanding of the material before you even start.

Great study guide for self directed test review bought for son. Will update once examIs taken.

I'm halkf way through the book and it has great organization. The intro is also pleasant read. I'm impressed with the author's candidness throughout the book. I also appreciate how they book notes the differences between this and the handbook.

Very thorough and exposed many of the boneheaded nomenclature and mistakes the handbook has. You could easily lose points without what a variable stands for even if you have seen the equation in practice several times. Thanks guys at PPI

I have never written an Amazon review before, but that is because I have never been so disappointed. That is because Amazon appears to have started using a different publisher for this book just at the beginning of this month, but kept all of the reviews and ratings from the previous publisher. This copy is absolute TRASH. The typeset is so terrible that it renders the book practically unreadable. They literally cut some words off in the middle and then print them in the middle of the next page. Some paragraphs are segmented into a number of chunks that follow no rhyme or reason. Not to mention the numerous typos throughout. I simply do not understand how this is acceptable.(Note: At the time of this review, the publisher is currently listed as: Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform (March 3, 2018) )

Ernest Hemingway's "A Farewell to Arms" is one of the books I have re-read the most throughout my life, along with Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises," Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" and "Under Western Eyes" and Joyce's "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man." In many ways, it is to me, as 'perfect' as any novel I have ever read. Its structure is flawless, the characters unforgettable, and the writing is bold and terse, hard and yielding all at the same time. I never fail to learn something new each time I read this wonderful work of art. If I was to teach a class on how to write a novel, this would be the book I would assign to my class.The Hemingway Library Edition of "A Farewell to Arms" I received as a gift also came with an Appendix that included the thirty-nine other endings Hemingway considered for the novel. Many are quite telling and a two were used in the serialized versions that appeared in Scribner magazines before the actual publication of the book. I simply love this book.

This is my favorite novel. I am a huge fan of Hemingway's "Never use a large word, where a simple word will work," writing style. If you're unfamiliar with this, take a look inside to see what I mean. The style is slow, and relatively uneventful.This is not a book for children. They could read it, but would perhaps miss many of the main themes. There is certainly rampant alcohol-use throughout the book.I love the book because Hemingway won't give the reader the ending they're expecting. He forces the reader to consider the the book over and over again. I may be simply written, and not for the Shakespearean-read scholar, but enjoyable and steady.

While I have read the story before and it is amazing, this book was an absolute waste of money. I spent the money expecting to get the entire book yet I only received half as if the publisher decided I can do this and sell a lot more. There we multiple typos too many to count. The final issue was there were no page numbers. after buying this book for a college course I was disappointed that this was a waste of time and money. I would recommend looking for a pdf copy off of Google or perhaps go to your local library it is much more useful than buying this particular group.

Though retired now and with all the books I have read it occurred to me that the only Hemmingway I had tried was an audio of Old Man And The Sea. Across The River and Into the Trees’ appeared to be a good place to start, it was. The introduction by Acino Acinonyx almost made me put this Kindle version away for a later time both because it was apparent nobody had read the introduction, corrected the flaws made during conversion, or checked the facts, which were very often wrong and contradictory. Skip that part, it isn’t worth your time.As for the novel itself, I enjoyed it. It is more about the characters than any deep story but the plot twists move you along at a decent pace. I had read about Hemmingway’s “ice berg” style, which is very interesting, but what really appealed to me is how this ebbed and flowed without the drastic actions found in many of our current day novels. As a writer I know that that isn’t an easy thing to do. I also know that today’s writers often focus on the story while Hemmingway’s characters become real, you know them well by the end of the book.I’m not saying that the current crop of writers are bad, Hemmingway is just different and different from the old “classic” authors in that this is not a series of scenes which may or may not be related. He strips out side stories and keeps you moving though you are not sure to where.I highly recommend you read this, especially if you are a writer and even if you have read Hemmingway before without satisfaction. This is a very good read.

Although the story is very sad and deserves an entire different review, my comments are focused on the writing of it. There are a multitude of grammar, syntax, spelling and typing mistakes that greatly affect its presentation. The story lacks flow and is shy of a negligent journalistic presentation. Editing is an almost non-existing factor.

Every teen girl? NEEDS to read this book. It is a stark reminder that our world IS NOT safe and that even in small town America? Horrible crimes like human trafficking CAN and do happen. This book is raw with emotion and told in the very thoughts and words of the victim herself, a young, vulnerable, naive and trusting teen. Gritty, brutally honest and tragic...One error of poor judgement? Will forever change this young life.

The evil that human beings are capable of is mind boggling. I don't understand it. This book brings home the reality of sex trafficking. I recommend it to anyone trying to help the victims as it gives a very clear picture of what it is really like and the pure hell they go through.

The story needs to be told and it's terrifying! However, as others have said, there are many typos, grammatical errors and a general lack of proofing that diminish the pleasure and ease of reading it!

The book offers a short and informative look into sex slavery an human trafficking. It tells a story of nativity and hope. It is one girl's determination to beat the odds and right a wrong. I pray she is in s better place today.

I'm glad I read this book. I'M WONDERING HOW the average person could help stop this? This book gives us a look at the depravity of man. Every person should should read this book! I gave this rating because of the content. More people need to learn about what is going on, and someone needs to get people organized to catch those who are running these slave rings.

This book was very emotional. It's a shame what happens to innocent people. There is no reason for any of the survivors to EVER feel guilty or they deserved it for any reason. There a'll it of sick people if you can even call them that, that prey on others.

Do not be a dinosaur and think because you don't use or value social media means it has no power on your child. Do not think this doesn't affect you if you don't have a tween or teen. These are the kids that will be in the workforce in twent years or less. If you expect to be alive then, this affects you. Peer pressure has ALWAYS been an issue. I'm an Xer. I remember peer pressure. Social media takes peer pressure and makes it the thing that gives kids their value. Saying NO doesn't feel empowering to a lot of kids anymore. Feminism has become all twisted into girls feeling forced to be sexy when they should still be children. Remember as a tween how you might notice a boy or read a bookmarked passsage in someone's mom's romance novel but then you might be playing with a Strawberry Shortcake doll or battling with a pretend lightsaber the next minute? Sexuality came about gradually and naturally. Not for these kids. They have access to porn at age eleven or twelve. Much of porn online is violent or fetishist which isn't what you want your child to think is typical sex. I'm not saying porn is bad. I'm saying it has no place in the life of a kid. Especially when they see this stuff daily and unfiltered. They become desensitized. They focus on how they LOOK and how many likes they get. It's a real mess. Girls in middke school photoshop their pics to look thinner & prettier. Intelligence does not get likes. The kids idolize the Katdashians and the number one life goal is "Be famous." Remember how it used to be that was a goal for the few kids who wanted to be an actor/actress and fame just was going to mean they were good at the job they loved? These kids are unhappy. They talk about how hard it all is. I began reading this book because of worrisome things I've noticed going on in instagram accts etc of teenagers I care about. This book explained what I was seeing, why, and that it's not an isolated group of kids. They are mostly all affected. Worse, the age that this is happening is younger each year. Everyone needs to read this book. Whether you have kids or not. Boy or girl. Male or female. It's not just the girls who are affected. The boys are just as affected. If you think this doesn't concern you, it will when these kids grow up and run the country. We need to have a dialogue in this country about what we value and what our hopes are for this youngest generation. I love technology. I got an iphone one the day it went on sale back in 2007. Loving technology does not mean we don't need to use our brains and think. Kids are not adults. Period. It doesn't matter that they are growing up. They are not GROWN. They need to be protected. People need to be parents and not best friends. Please. Please. Read this book. Easily the most important book you'll read this year. As a nation, we need to talk about this. Kudos to Nancy Jo Sales for such excellent research & exhaustive interviews. We need this book to educate us & start us talking.

I am a Teaching Pastor at a large evangelical church in Texas. I read this book after hearing Nancy speak at a Technology and Faith conference, and it inspired crucial conversations and sermons in our church. I can't recommend it highly enough for parents of both girl and boy tweens and teens. We've buried our heads in the sand long enough. We need to understand the dangers our children face in the online world BEFORE we hand them internet connected devices so we can help them navigate this brave new world in a safe and healthy way. Nancy's book provides the data and stories we need to make informed parental decisions. Her book is brutally and explicitly honest, and therefore not appropriate for younger children (the language and stories are rough). But that brutal honesty is exactly what parents need to face. May this book inspire life-giving conversations in your own home, ministry, or church.

The book is full of scenarios of what a lot of teenagers are into. I was looking forward to the conclusion after a while since the scenarios never seemed to stop. I wish the author also delved on what adults can do to help these kids or what adults can do to become more a part of the kids' life.

This book is the most important book I have read in a long time. I haven't been able to talk about anything else while reading it, and am truly sad that it is over.Nancy Jo Sales' journey across America to examine the effects that social media has on teenage girls from the ages 13-19, is terrifying. She paints a clear portrayal of why girls feel the need to share every waking moment with their followers, and why they feel that they owe their bodies to boys. She states that girls are "in need of a set of critical tools with which to evaluate their experiences as girls and women in the digital age". Navigating social media needs to be a conversation had in every classroom, and at every dinner table. If you have kids, like kids, think that kids deserve to be safe and happy, you need to read this book. You'll hear stories that will break your heart, and realize that now is the time to lift girls up to ensure that they are not lost in the current political narrative. It starts from birth, and we can reverse negative external factors with good parenting and proper sexual education.

As a Christian woman, mother and grandmother of girls, and a teacher at a typical American middle school, I believe every thinking adult should read this book. I witness firsthand, with sickening frequency, how social media is stealing girls'self-worth and leaving them personally and emotionally vulnerable. This book is an explicit, unflinching, carefully documented investigation of how social media 24/7 is shaping the lives of girls. Nancy Jo Sales has written a book everyone should read--and talk to one another about. Face-to-face. In person. Phones off. Because we "realize how dear girls are." It's time adults start paying attention, get a plan, and act.
