The debate between infant baptism and believer-only baptism has been around for a long time. I entered the debate dogmatically espousing believer-only baptism, believing there were no good arguments on the side of infant baptism. However, after reading this short pamphlet by Bryan Chapell, I now see that there are strong biblical arguments on both sides of the debate. I think Dr. Chapell did an excellent job with this pamphlet, and I was not left with any major open questions.However, I also wanted to read the Puritans on infant baptism, and so I immediately turned to John Owen's article "Of Infant Baptism." However, John Owen is notoriously difficult to read, and I did not feel like flying solo. Fortunately, I found this short book by Lee Gatiss entitled "From Life's First Cry: John Owen on Infant Baptism and Infant Salvation." Lee Gatiss carefully walks the reader through John Owen's article step-by-step in a very helpful way. I felt that John Owen's article has his usual depth of thought but was perhaps not as carefully put together as his other writings. This is a very succinct summary, easy to read, and perfect for giving away to others who are not understanding infant baptism.

Clear and concise overview of infant baptism. I was looking for a quick read to help me better understand the position (being a Baptist) and Chapell does a great job.

This is a pamphlet... not a book... dry but informative. We didn't have all of our questions answered but it was a good start..

If you want a brief, readable analysis of why Reformed churches baptize the infants of Christian parents, this is the booklet you want to read. I have found no better explanation outside a course in biblical theology. Highly recommended.

Anne of Green Gables is a wonderful classic story and it gets 5 stars. This particular printing, however, is completely unacceptable. It's as if someone typed it into a document, and printed it off--no page numbers, not titled at the top of each page, the lines don't even break properly (see photo). Purchased as a gift, thankfully with enough time to purchase a better quality copy--probably for less money! A disgrace to the publishing community.

I LOVED Anne of Green Gables as a child and own the complete hard copy of the Anne series. Initially, I was delighted to find this collection of books written by one of my all time favorite authors for only $0.99 (kindle price. What a steal!) and felt I had to get the digital copy for my kindle at once. As soon as the product was delivered to my device, I began to read it since it's been years since I've visited the darling world that L.M Montgomery created.I was very surprised to find that I kept tripping on certain sentences; the writing didn't seem as smooth as I remembered. When I got to chapter 6, I decided to compare a sentence in the digital print to my old, yellowing physical copy of Anne of Green Gables book. I realized why I had some difficulty reading my new digital copy: THERE ARE TYPOS IN THIS PRODUCT.It contains the WORST kinds of typos. There are typos in which it results in sentences that don't make sense. There are typos with the wrong pronouns in them that make it confusing for the reader to understand which character the publisher meant to write about. I am able to follow the story because I've read Anne of Green Gables more than once with my hard copy but for new readers, these typos will make this beautiful story difficult to read and at times, understand.I hope the digital copy can be fixed so that owners can enjoy L.M. Montgomery's work as it was meant to be enjoyed. I have given this two stars instead of one because of the fabulous price for kindle readers.

BUYER BEWARE! The version published by "CreateSpace" is slapdash print-on-demand garbage. I hoped an illustrated version would be good for a child, but I returned it on first inspection. Nowhere could I find evidence of thought or effort in layout to justify any price. Illustrations are small, extremely infrequent, and essentially worthless. Some shameless soul has simply taken LM Montgomery's text, which, as it is in the public domain, is freely available to anyone, and tried to make money selling it. Interested readers would be advised to download a free ebook or pay for a handsomer edition, such as the Puffin In Bloom version. We went with the Puffin in Bloom version and are much more satisfied.

This is a great book, but buying this edition which Marco Pedulla purports to have translated constitutes buying stolen property.The book was written in Englilsh, so Pedulla has translated nothing. What he has done has taken material free in the public domain and offered it on Amazon.Amazon should NOT support theft.

The illustrations are actually random pictures that are creepy since they are in the beginning when Anne meets Mathew Cuthbert so they insinuate a romance between them. And the free audiobook is click bait to set you up to download an app and give your email address to spammers. Screen shots of the "illustrations" below.

This review is of the kindle version of Anne: The Green Gables Complete Collection and does not reflect on the L.M. Montgomery text. The Anne books have always been favorites of mine. Buy the book, but get another edition! First issue: Really random pics grabbed from some art history textbook do not qualify as illustrations. They are more distracting than I would have imagined. Why didn't they leave the totally unrelated images out? Second issue: This is some new definition of complete that I am unacquainted with. This is Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea only. None of the later books are included. False advertising. A text I am being pulled out of by unnecessary distractions. There have to be better options. I am going in search of one.

This is not only one of the best of the Images of America series, it is itself a small gem. It compresses information about both the Pan-Am and turn-of-the-century US history into very few words coupled with superb pictures. With incredible economy, the authors lead us through a rapidly changing American landscape of social mores, values, and politics in which the Pan-Am is played out as a representative image of all that is good and bad in the country. I learned so much about women, minorities, the rise of a consumer society, colonialism, class and power, architecture, and engineering - and just plain fun as it was known in a world before TV. What a great introduction to the modern era in US history! Wow!

A great book for anyone who is interested in Buffalo, New York history. My only wish is that the author had some pictures of what was done to the land after the Pan American Exposition was torn down.

Having lived in Buffalo years ago, I always wanted to know more about this fabled exposition of yore. This collection of rare photos of the building of the various exhibits & the opened fair itself is a treat! Only flaw is that many of the captions are for architecture aficionados only.

Better than I expected. I was looking for history on the art and color and this book was exactly what I was looking for. A well written book on the times.

Good review of the exposition where a President was shot, and later died from physicians ineptitude.Tends to give cursory coverage of negative events.Riots on the last night aren't mentioned.

When Adler died in 1992, the theater lost a great teacher, whose depth of experience alone made her invaluable. Daughter of one of the greats of Yiddish theater, Jacob Adler, she studied with Stanislavski, was a founder of the Group Theater and appeared in many of its seminal productions, married the brilliant critic Harold Clurman (they later divorced), and after the Group Theater folded, founded an acting school that rivaled Lee Strasberg's. But she never wrote a book about her theories and techniques. This collection, culled from sound recordings of her at work, at least re-creates the feel of her classes. Editor Kissel deserves great credit for shaping what could have been a chaotic collage of pronouncements into a coherent whole. The book's 22 lively chapters detail Adler's techniques for preparing her students for a life on the stage. Theater aficionados will appreciate Adler's discussion of modern plays and her belief that acting is a rare, privileged profession, and young actors will benefit from the many acting exercises sprinkled throughout the text. This book changed my life! I never write reviews but felt inspired to write one for this book. It was recommended to me by Bob Proctor and another one of his coaches. I kept asking for a way to change my self-image so that I could lose the extra 10 pounds I wanted to get rid of and they highly recommended this book.After reading the first 5 chapters I was so amazed. The most important thing I learned was that I could use my imagination to act as my ideal self and therefore create it.I imagine all the time being a fabulous, stylish, slender Queen as well as everything around me. I imagine wearing the stylish clothes, eating slowly and with delicate, fancy silverware on gold lined royal plates with high-quality, artfully designed foods. I sit like a Queen, I walk like a Queen, I even drive my car like a Queen. Just totally elegant, confident, beautiful and like I am so important and lucky. And it's so fun!As silly as it sounds â€” it totally works! I barely have food cravings or overeat. I feel so much more confident in myself. I feel like I honor and respect myself more. And definitely a whole lot happier :)Highly recommend this book not just for acting but if you want to change the way you think about yourself. And to change negative habits, thoughts, and self-sabotaging behavior.

The Art of Acting is a great book on the subject of acting written by one of the premier acting teachers of the 20th century. Adler's book is inspirational, powerful, and profound. She explains, in great detail, various actions the actor may be called upon to perform on stage and leads her students through various exercises meant to connect the actor with the imagination and train themselves to realistically behave within the context of their character's background, costume, environment, social status, and culture. The only reason I gave this book four stars instead of five is that I feel it is not as use-able as some other acting books. Adler sometimes goes on (and on and on) describing the nature of some kind of action ("to reminiscence") or something and...what am I supposed to DO with that? It feels a lot like her interpretation (read opinion) of the nature of those things and how they should be played. Again, it just seemed to wax philosophical more than useful from time to time. There was also the advice "the actress does not sneeze on stage" to which I wanted to shout "COME ON Stella!"...my point is, again, if you want something really practical you should take a class while reading the book so it's easier to see how to use this information, and/or pick a different book. With all that said, she makes a lot of good points and is very powerful. The dignity she brings to acting is extraordinary and her emphasis on imagination is fascinating. I recommend this book to actors, directors, and anyone interested in theatre and acting. It's a beautiful book, and I intend to re-read it eventually. Hopefully I'll find more utility in a second reading.

To say that this book is life-changing would be an understatement. The first time I read it, I was shattered. Her voice is so powerful it galvanizes the artist inside you. I've owned it for a number of years, and whenever I run dry or need to return to the grand basics, I re-read sections of it and I am instantly clear-minded and fired up. Her brilliance, artistry, and clarity is almost overwhelming. I only wish that I had the chance to study with her personally... hearing and seeing Stella Adler teach/perform is the ultimate for any theatre individual. This book (along with her other published works) is the next best thing. It's easy to see why she's so revered to this day. If you were to read just one book on the performing arts, this is the only one worth reading in my opinion. If you are open as an artist, it is transformative. If you have Stella Adler, you have gold. Marvelous!

I purchased this book to help me with visualizing; acting as if... I did not have to read the entire book to get my answer. It also gave me a higher level of respect for actors and actresses and their talents.

It's a tremendously valuable and classic book on acting, and especially on how to be real in a moment and not "indicate", and the necessity of detailed imaginary circumstances and actions to free us up to be as authentic as possible.Which is why I have to take such issue with the cover -- it shows Stella Adler in such a ridiculous, exaggerated and stereotyped "Acting" pose, which is exactly, precisely the *opposite* of what the book is actually about. In fact, I put off buying and reading the book for months precisely because I'd thought, well that's clearly *not* the kind of acting I need.So read the book but toss the jacket! She says something like: "If you bring your life experiences to Julius Caesar how do you think your rejection at the high school dance even measures up to Marc Antony's dilemma?" yet Brando says in interview after interview: "If I need to be mad, I think of how my father treated me." so where's the connection? I don't understand that, wouldn't she have taught him: "Your anger at your father cannot measure to Marc Antony." or something like that. Thanks.

I've done my fair share of traveling in North Africa and these books were almost my guide. They cover seemingly every town, even the very small ones. This edition talks a lot about "cultural tourism", or things that you can do with the natives. I wish there were a bit more detail about safaris, but there's more than enough here to help you form a strong idea of your itinerary.

I've lived in TZ for 10 months now and I can say this book is an excellent overview of tourism opportunities across the country. As for the structure, it's very well organized and easy to navigate. I enjoyed the smaller sections on Tanzanian food, music, politics, history, etc. Unfortunately, most people will only ever use half of this book. TZ is so huge, you just can't reach some of these places unless you have months. But I guess that's true of many guidebooks.

This is my go to book for my travels to Tanzania in 2016. Love the photos.

The book presents a good overview of traveling in Tanzania.

This book, which includes a variety of contextual introductory essays and translations and commentaries by various lineage masters is really fantastic, and sets the bar! It is by far the best book available on the subject!Karl Brunnholzl does a wonderful job to make it clear (and accessible) what is being discussed and why itâ€™s relevant for us. The detailed and comprehensive commentary he provides and his translations of the root prayer and supportive traditional scholarly material (using a wide range of works by the 14th century master Longchenpa) are all excellent and easy to understand; starting with a clear explanation of who Samantabhadra is;â€œThus, Samantadhadraâ€™s buddhahood comes about through rigpaâ€™s true nature simply recognizing itself, by itself, without any further conditions or fabrications: it does not arise through any causes or conditions that are extrinsic or external to it, such as teachers, accumulations of conditioned merit, study, reflection, or contrived forms of meditation beyond the sheer recognition of rigpa by itself.â€ (p.10)He then goes on to give the reader background on the historical context of the Northern Treasure tradition (where the prayer first arose in the mid 14th century with Ridgzin Godemchen), the role of aspirational prayers in the Tibetan traditions, the special non-dual language of such a personification of Buddha Nature, the structure of the prayer and how it an be practiced (through recitation and contemplation). He then presents his translations of three different versions of the prayer (the 19th chapter of the Tantra of Samantabhadra's Unobsctructed Awakened Mind, the â€˜common versionâ€™ as well as one intended to be recited).â€œAll sentient being of the three realmsare equal to myself, the Buddha, the ground of all,but for them it has become the ground of meaningless delusion.Right now, they engage in meaningless activities,with six kinds of karma being like delusion in a dream.I, however, am the primordial buddhaâ€¦.A HO!From now on, whenever mighty yogic practitionersmake this powerful aspirational prayerwithin self-luminous awareness free of delusion,all sentient beings who hear itwill fully awaken within three lives.â€ (from the recitation version, p. 117)Next come three extensive Tibetan commentaries by Jigme Lingpa (1729-98), The Fifteenth Karmapa (1870-1921) and Tsultrim Sangpo (1884-1957).
