It looks like someone took a book about Kindle Fire and tried to edit it into a book for the Paperwhite. But they left in lots of Fire-specific stuff such as the Silk browser.A specific example is the beginning of Chapter 7, Installing and Launching Apps: "After setting up the Kindle Paperwhite, users can spend leisure time enjoying books and magazine on a high speed, full color display". The Kindle Paperwhite, of course, is a black and white e-ink display.This chapter then goes on to explain how to install apps from the Amazon App Store -- which can't be used by the Paperwhite.
I found the Kindle Paperwhite Manual very helpful and I recommend it. Even with the explanantiion I found the Paperwite challenging in several areas.My problem areas are - Specifically, The Cloud and seeing all the books I have available which I have on my 'original' Kindle. I can't seem to see a list longer than what's shown on the Homepage which is about 6 books. I have a lot on my First kindle but I dont have a separate list. So I feel I don't dare get rid of my original kindle.Maybe you can explain it to me.Probably for most people it's easier because they just have the paperwhite.
The book has a few typographical errors and absolutely NO illustrations at all. This limits the effectiveness of the book to be anything buy just OK. Sometimes it is vague in its references to functions and does not full explain things like how to execute a function except in a vague manner. I do not mean to unjustly criticize the work, but it is a light weight get started guide rather than a definitive guide. I think that title was put on the cover to get it sold because it is in competition with several other user guides.
Manual writers should give af a draft of their effort to someone who is new to the Kindle and see if the newby can use it to figure out how to operate the device. This book probably makes sense to the writer but it is of very limited use to a new user. It needs a lot more step by step detail with illustrations.
It is a good books. explain most kindle paper white features and how to use it.but it need to improve:1. look like some content is not for paper white: video, app, color, ETC.2. battery life only 8 hour ?3. organize book easier to be done from computer4. need to add more tips for advanced user and also how to solve browser problems. sometimes my browser got problems.
The book does not take the place of a small starter guide. Without the help of a diagram it was hard to follow. I am struggling with the features of the paperwhite. Have gone back to the guide several times and did not find it helpful. How do I access word definitions. Is there an easy way to trace a character back. In a history book such as I am currently reading there are many key players. Hard to remember from one reading to the next. This guide was not helpful.
The online manual was hard for me to use as I was reading it. I need a printed copy to correspond to what I'm seeing on the Kindle.
I was preparing a 'gift basket' for a charity. I found a neat cardboard box that looked like a pirates chest, put some crumbled tissue paper on the bottom and placed a Kindle Paper White, an Amazon $50 gift card and this Users Guide inside the chest and shrink wrapped it in cellophane. My basket was the hit of the party. The lady that won the chest was an avid reader, so I was happy!
